How does a water softener work?
Essentially, a water softener is a simple device: it removes the limescale from your tap water. Although the idea is simple, the theory behind it is more complicated. To explain this, it is first important to establish exactly what limescale is.
Lime is a mineral found in our groundwater. Our tap water contains a lot of lime particles; in some local authorities there are more lime particles in the water than in other local authorities. When these calcium particles dry out, they form a solid substance. We call this limescale. Because calcium has a high adhesive strength, it is very difficult to remove. What’s more, it will always come back if you don’t tackle the source of the problem.
Mooiwater’s water softeners operate on the principle of ion exchange. This process removes limescale from the water using salt. Put simply, once the descaling process is complete, there won’t be a single trace of limescale left in your water pipes. So your whole house is limescale-free!
