Time-controlled water softener

The simplest of the four mentioned is the time-controlled water softener with just one resin tank (simplex). This (simplest) method is based on a pre-calculated average water consumption.

Suppose it has been calculated that the resin can soften, for example, 4,000 litres of water and that this amount is used up on average in 10 days. The system is then set to perform a rinse cycle after 6 days. This is to prevent the resin from becoming exhausted in the event of higher-than-average water consumption, meaning it would no longer be able to supply soft water.

However, it may also be the case that much less water is used than average; nevertheless, the system will flush once the set time has elapsed. The conclusion is that this outdated, cheap technology is highly inefficient in terms of water consumption and therefore expensive to run. An efficiency of just 50% or less is not uncommon.

Alternative: a Mooiwater water softener which works much more efficiently and can save you a lot of money!
