Gelukkig duurt dit maar kort en vindt dit slechts eens in de paar weken plaats (afhankelijk van het type ontharder , het waterverbruik en de hardheid van het water) op een door uzelf gekozen tijdstip. Daar staan wel de kosten van de twee harscilinders tegenover. Een cilinder kost nou eenmaal minder geld dan 2 stuks. Daarnaast kan het kalkvrije water tijdens het spoelen van een van beide cilinders slechts geleverd worden door de enkele andere cilinder waardoor de waterdruk tijdens het spoelen verminderd.
